Live: Ferndown Final 2019

Megan Hill

Friday April 12th 2019 at the Barrington Theatre, Pennys Walk, Ferndown saw the Final of Live; Ferndown 2019. What a show, what a line-up there was!

On the Judging Panel: Ian ‘Ben’ Bennett (Potato Pants Festival), Steve Saville (Forest FM), Helena Mace (Singer / Songwriter), Grant Mace (Singer / Photographer), Matt Black (The Piano Man / Comedian)

To open, Helena Mace came through the curtains, and talked about our late founder, Steve Lugg, and his passion for live music, before the curtains opened, revealing Matt Black, Matt Griffiths & Grant Mace, who all went on to perform 3 tracks, 2 of which were Helena’s own!

Helena then introduced Chrissyferkin (Compere), who talked about the competition, the Judges and our contestants, before introducing the first contestant, Calvin Glen. After comments from the judges, it was the turn of Nia Nicholls, with her country style and maybe a hint of Taylor Swift (or was it the other way round Ian?).

Moving on, with her powerful voice, Hannah Gough took to the stage, followed by Lauren Perkins and her guitar. Her Dad, Dave, still owes the audience several drinks!

To continue, the lovely Gracie Park performed beautifully, and then Laura Hemming performed fantastically, despite having a nasty cold, and finished this section of the show.

The 2nd Section of the show was mainly acoustic, with Kez Hinton opening, followed by our eventual Winner, Taya Minchington. Jack Rideout continued the acoustic theme, who then handed the stage to Megan Hill. Tori Allen finished this section of the show, complete with mirror shades!

One of our helpers, Cassidy Mace, was then brought onto stage as a surprise to receive a birthday cake and the audience singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to her!

Our Judges, L-R, Ian ‘Ben’ Bennett, Steve Saville, Helena Mace, Grant Mace & Matt Black

The results were as follows:

1st Place: Taya Minchington

2nd Place: Nia Nicholls

3rd Place: Kez Hinton

Audience Vote Winner: Jack Rideout

We have also included this year a new special award, ‘The Steve Lugg Special Recognition’ Award, given to the contestant that the judges felt Steve would have wanted it to go to. Presented by his daughter, Katie, it was won by Tori Allen.
